Meeting customer challenges with innovative solutions
CD Sud is a Marseille-based distributor of heating and air-conditioning equipment serving professional builders. The company offers 4000 product references of different brands: Mitsubishi, Samsung and Daikin. The products are distributed in dozens of outlets in the South of France.
Lack of capacity, rate instability, port congestion… The global logistics industry has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and it has been very complicated for companies to import. At the same time, with COVID-19 lockdowns, the demand of domestic goods has increased, and so did the volumes of orders at CD Sud.
It is therefore a real challenge for CD Sud, whose orders are increasing at a time when supply is shrinking, to be able to rely on a reliable and efficient forwarder that could guarantee the loading of its orders from China every week.

Project progress
Guarantee on-time deliveries despite ocean freight capacity crisis.
It was a crucial moment for CD Sud: the global supply chain crisis was hitting hard while the company was facing a strong growth. By the end of 2021, there was a lack of capacity and equipment in China. As a result, the company was not able to load its cargo from China for several weeks. CD Sud team was trying to find solution with their usual freight forwarders but, in these disturbed times, they did not obtain a clear nor immediate answer.
To face this challenging situation, CD Sud started to entrust a first transport to OVRSEA. The results were satisfying: equipment released, and cargo loaded on time. The ETD and ETA initially validated by CD Sud were respected, which has not happened for months, since the beginning of the world logistics crisis. Therefore, the well-known heating and air-conditioning distributor decided to entrust all its imports from China to OVRSEA.
Since January 2022, CD Sud cargo loads weekly from the ports of Ningbo and Shanghai. The company benefits from allocations negotiated by OVRSEA with shipping lines, notably with MSC and Evergreen. These allocations secure exclusive space and equipment every week: 128 loaded TEUs during the first quarter of 2022. Thus, the announced ETD / ETA are respected, and the orders delivered on time. The growing needs of the well-known distributor in terms of supply are satisfied.
"We couldn’t find a solution with our usual forwarder while OVRSEA makes sure to create partnerships with shipping companies to have regular and reliable departures, with assured equipment releases."Nathalie Bonnemay | Supply Manager @CD Sud
Track the loading and progress of each order in a reliable and transparent way
Since CD Sud's supplies are managed by OVRSEA, CD Sud can follow the progress of an order much more easily. On the OVRSEA platform, CD Sud's procurement team can now search by order reference, product or supplier, and directly access the status of the order. This functionality is used daily by CD Sud's procurement team, which has a high volume of shipments (first quarter of 2022: 128 TEU or 47 shipments).
With previous freight forwarders, CD Sud Supply team could never be sure that the information they received was reliable or not. For instance, the change in the estimated time of arrival (ETA) was not clearly communicated to them. With OVRSEA it is different. As a way to secure orders and deliver CD Sud’s clients on time, CD Sud Supply team is proactively informed by OVRSEA directly on the platform if issues and delays occurred; suggesting alternative solutions. If any ETD / ETA change happens, notifications are directly pushed on the platform.
""he difference is the platform that allows us to have more precise information. We get notifications every time there is a breakthrough on one of our open orders."
Patricia Faene | Assistant Supply Manager @CD Sud
Monitor all the imports of CD Sud Procurement team in an efficient way
The collaborative dimension of the OVRSEA platform is now crucial in the transport organization of the CD Sud Supply team. For each order placed on OVRSEA platform, a member of CD Sud Supply team is assigned. In this way, when a collaborator is on vacation, the substitute saves time and efforts. Indeed, for each order, all the history of the necessary documents are centralized and archived on the platform notably chat exchanges, packing lists, invoices…
Since all the records are stored in one place, there is no need anymore for the CD Sud’s team to send plenty of emails to the forwarders to share documents and information. No need neither to asynchronously update never-ending Excel tables. All transports and ETD, ETA are updated in real time on the platform. This has saved time and efforts to CD Sud.
"When a colleague is on leave, we have all the follow-up of the file in particular the chat exchanges, the invoices, the packing lists directly on the platform"
Patricia Faene | Assistant Supply Manager @CD Sud
Since the beginning of COVID-19 crisis, OVRSEA has been able to meet CD Sud growing demand for supplies from China by anticipating and offering adapted ocean freight services. And by proposing a suitable solution every week, even though the world has been experiencing a supply chain crisis.
With OVRSEA platform and monitoring features, CD Sud is now able to perfectly track ongoing imports. For the third quarter of 2022, CD Sud has trusted OVRSEA with over 100 containers and it’s just the beginning.
